—— PROJECT

Walton Orthodontics

The Walton Orthodontics clinic project began with a feasibility study in order to determine the viability of working with the existing residence on the property as a starting point, or demolishing it and building new.  In close collaboration with the Owner, and with consideration to their sentimental ties to the residence, it was determined that an extensive renovation, modernization, and addition to the residence, as required to convert it to a modern orthodontics facility, would be the best course of action.

Project Vision

The vision for Walton Orthodontics was to create a state-of-the-art, efficient, and welcoming orthodontic clinic. The new facility aims to provide a soothing environment that enhances patient comfort and well-being. Key elements of the design include maximizing natural light and creating a strong connection to the outdoors, as expressed in the double-height entry, waiting, and reception space, as well as the outward facing treatment chairs, which take in the view of the landscape and housing beyond.

Key Features

Modern Clinical Space: The expanded 3,700 square foot building features specialized areas essential for orthodontic care. It includes consultation stations, an X-ray room, a sterilization area, a lab, clinic space, and administrative and support areas. Each space is meticulously planned to ensure optimal functionality and patient flow.

Natural Light and Outdoor Connection: Large windows allow connection to the outdoors and provide a calm and comfortable environment.

Durable Finishes: The materials chosen for the clinic are durable enough to withstand high-traffic healthcare demands while maintaining a visually appealing aesthetic. This balance ensures the facility remains professional and welcoming.

Patient-Centered Design: The layout of the clinic is designed with the patient experience in mind. From the arrangement of consultation and treatment areas to the integration of advanced technology, the space is tailored to provide efficient, high-quality orthodontic care.

Project Challenges

Feasibility Study: The initial feasibility study required a detailed comparison of renovating versus constructing a new building. This involved assessing costs, potential disruptions, and long-term benefits, as well as Owner sentiment.

Space Optimization: Careful planning and coordination was required in order to provide all necessary clinical, administrative, and support functions in the design.  Ensuring efficient space utilization while maintaining a spacious and welcoming environment was a key challenge.

Technology Integration:  Incorporating modern orthodontic equipment and technology into the design was essential for providing high-quality care. This required working with specialists to ensure the infrastructure supports current and future technological needs.

Summary

The new Walton Orthodontics clinic is a model of modern healthcare design, providing a serene and efficient environment for orthodontic care. The integration of natural light and outdoor connections enhances the patient experience, while the use of durable and attractive materials ensures the clinic remains welcoming and functional for years to come.

Additionally, the project demonstrates the importance of feasibility studies in guiding major decisions.  Walton Orthodontics is now equipped to provide exceptional care in a state-of-the-art facility that reflects the highest standards of design and functionality.
