Healdsburg Winery
Nestled in the scenic landscapes of Sonoma County, this project marks a significant transformation for a heritage winery relocating its operations to a vast estate adjacent to a lumberyard and another winery. At the heart of this picturesque property is a beautifully restored 19th century residence, intended to serve as a charming tasting room. This historic gem is complemented by a fully operational winery, an Agricultural Educational Facility, and a repurposed historic barn that functions as a versatile event space, creating a unique fusion of tradition and modernity.
Project Details
Designing a Cohesive Estate: Where Past Meets Present
The estate’s design introduces a striking contrast between the historic and the contemporary, highlighted by the modern, striated rammed earth walls of the new facilities. These subtle tones, inspired by the natural palette of the estate, harmonize effortlessly with the surrounding environment. Accents of blackened steel and a continuous large aggregate concrete base add to the modern yet organic aesthetic, ensuring that the new structures integrate with the natural backdrop. Expansive glazed areas further enhance this connection, blurring the lines between interior and exterior and allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in the serene beauty of the estate.
Layout to Enhance the Visitor Experience
The winery is strategically positioned in the northeastern corner of the property, surrounded by lush vineyards that create a tranquil setting and harken to the wine production. A creek and some additional vineyard acreage serve as a buffer between the production area and the educational facility and tasting room, enhancing scenic beauty while maintaining operational efficiency. Carefully landscaped paths connect these distinct areas, preserving the estate’s mature trees and inviting visitors to explore the tranquil surroundings at their leisure.
